Alhambra Fire Department fights residential fire

UPDATED 10:37 a.m.:

Alhambra firefighters extinguished Thursday morning a residential fire on the corner of Date Avenue and Front Street. The fire started around 8:30 a.m. in a duplex house, according to Alhambra Fire Battalion Chief John Cermak. No one was injured.

Kim Kha, who was inside the duplex house when it caught on fire, was getting her two young children ready for school when she noticed smoke in the sky. "I thought that the smoke was coming from the Glendora fire, but then my neighbors started coming out," Kha said. "They were telling me that my house was on fire."

Kha and her children were able to safely exit the house, and firefighters arrived minutes later, Kha said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Cermak.
