Alhambra Educational Foundation awards local advocates

The Alhambra Educational Foundation held its 7th Annual Service to Education Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 12. This year's theme, "Giving Back to Education," honored individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to education in the community served by the Alhambra Unified School District (AUSD). The 2011 honorees were: government, City of Alhambra Councilperson Barbara A. Messina; education, AUSD Superintendent Donna M. Pérez; business, Tri-Star Vending; community volunteers, Mitchell Ing and Gloria Ing; and community organization, Chinese American Citizens Alliance. A special Life Achievement Award, the first in AEF's history, was awarded to Dr. LaVonne B. Wood, educator and founding Board member of the Foundation.

Mayor Yamauchi’s first ever Cupcake Cooking Contest will be held during the month of April with the final judging on Monday, April 25 in the City Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m. Entries are open to Alhambra High School students and will be distributed at the high school beginning Wednesday, March 23. First prize will be an estimated $200.00 with other prizes also awarded. Join the fun.
