Alhambra Chamber of Commerce holds fundraiser for 'monster truck' Rose Parade float

The Alhambra Chamber of Commerce held a luncheon Tuesday at Almansor Court to fundraise for the city's 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade float, World Journal (世界日报) reports. The float, which will take the shape of a "monster" truck with orange flames and monster riders, is estimated to cost less than $300,000.

Alhambra City Council voted in February to allow the Chamber of Commerce to oversee the construction and decoration of the project. Council also appropriated $90,000 in public art funds to help pay for the Rose Parade float and entrance fee.

This will be the 86th year Alhambra participates in the Rose Parade. Alhambra Mayor Stephen Sham said Monday that Alhambra's 2014 float will showcase the city's energy and vitality, according to World Journal
