15 injured after fire trucks collide in Monterey Park

Nine civilians and six firefighters were injured Wednesday when two fire trucks collided in Monterey Park.

One civilian remains in critical condition after a Monterey Park fire engine collided with an Alhambra Fire Department truck around 3:15 p.m. at Garfield and Emerson avenues, sending one of the engines into Lu Dumpling House, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports. The vehicles were rushing to the scene of a structure fire when the crash occurred.

The critically injured civilian was believed to be in the restaurant during the accident and was taken to a trauma center, Monterey Park Fire Chief Jim Birrell told the Tribune. It is unclear whether the other eight civilians injured in the crash were diners at the restaurant or pedestrians.

Three Alhambra firefighters and three Monterey Park firefighters suffered minor to moderate injuries in the crash, according to the Tribune.
