The sidewalks of San Gabriel Blvd will be repaved, and new central islands, streetlights, garbage cans, benches, and traffic signs will be added by 2015, World Journal (世界日报) reports. The first session focuses on the segment between Mission Street and Broadway Street. It plans to finish the followings by December 2011:

  • Add two central islands intended to separate the two-way traffic.
  • Beautify the sidewalks with plants and repaved them with water-resistant bricks.
  • Add street chairs, and garbage cans, and more traffic signs.
  • Replaced streetlights with new ones.

The second session will focus on the segment between Elm Street and Central Avenue.

The construction has slowed the flow of local traffic, especially during rush hours, World Journal reports. Local residents and business owners said they were bothered by dirt, noise, and land shaking during the 2009 construction, and told the Chinese newspaper that they are concerned.
