Gas sales suspended at Alhambra Costco*

Before you head to Alhambra's Costco to fill up for the weekend, think again. The station has suspended gas sales since Thursday morning, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports, and does not know when it will be able to offer gas again. 

This was part of a larger shortage impacting the Los Angeles region, with Costco also stopping sales in Azusa,Simi Valley, and Northridge, as well as elsewhere.

"We're down 100 percent from yesterday. There are definitely some supply issues out there. Unfortunately I don't know how long it will take to fix at this point," Greg Bond, assistant warehouse manager at the Simi Valley store, told the Daily News.

The Tribune reports that other outlets are also being impacted, and that the significant price increases are due to a power failure at the ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery.

*Correction: An earlier version of this story reported that Costco is out of gas. More precise is that Costco has suspended sales because prices have risen so high.

This is one of the reasons I moved to Alhambra many years ago. If you think things are bad here, how do you think people out in the suburbs feel?

I live close to Main St and have my own shopping cart. I can get to most any service I want without using my car. Of course, if you drive to work, your going to have to pay up, but living in the burbs would be much worse.

I firmly believe in WALKABLE communities and from what I see, Alhambra is doing a pretty good job working towards that as best they can. We need to encourage businesses of all sizes to make Alhambra their home, and of course, the mixed-use concept should continue and be encouraged.

Glad I filled up at the Alhambra Costco on Tuesday night before Costco ran out of gas and those of us trying to pay the rising prices ran out of money.
