Monterey Park Councilwoman resigns

Monterey Park Councilwoman Betty Tom Chu resigned at a special meeting Monday night, the Pasadena Star-News is reporting.
"The pattern of ignoring hard realities continues, and my hours of studying the issues have evolved into hours of wasting my time," Chu, a lawyer, said. Chu had sparred with other City Council members in the past regarding issues such as the recent smoking ban.
"It is a shock to our system," Talbot told the Star-News, "but it's just part of the business and we'll address it and deal with it." Chu was up for reelection in 2013. It's unclear what will happen to her seat, the Star-News reports.
