Miramonte teacher to face trial in sex scandal charges

Martin Springer, an Alhambra resident, will stand trial on three counts of child molestation, a judge ordered on Thursday. Springer is a suspect in a sex abuse scandal that unfolded at Miramonte Elementary School in South Los Angeles earlier this year. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dorothy B. Reyes rejected his attorney's motion to dismiss the counts, which compared the case to a witch hunt and insisted that Springer was swept up in a scandal involving another Miramonte teacher suspected of lewd conduct, the LA Times reports.

If convicted, Springer faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. He is currently free on bail while awaiting his arraignment, which is set for October 11, 2012.
