Local Democratic leaders come out to support Obama in an Alhambra auto shop
Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-El Monte) and other President Obama supporters held a press conference on August 14 in Alhambra to campaign for his reelection, Singtao Daily (星島日報) reports. Chu said that Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s political views put the middle class and students at a disadvantage while Obama’s policies support education, economic growth, and healthcare.
The press conference was held in an auto repair shop owned by Vincent Chang, the president of the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce, to emphasize the important role that small and mid-size businesses play in the U.S. economy. Chang said his father opened the auto repair shop in the 1970s to support the family. Chang claimed that Romney’s policies would benefit the rich but harm the poor.
Judy Chu also emphasized the importance of education and it's ability to increase the next generation's competitiveness and boost the economy. She attacked Romney’s 20% cut on the education budget, claiming it will reduce the number of teachers and classes, affecting students’ chance to succeed.
