Former Alhambra High football coach and science teacher resigns

Former Alhambra High School football coach and science teacher Joe Kanach resigned Monday after the district put him on leave for a number of weeks to investigate his background, San Gabriel Valley Tribue reports. District officials told the Tribune that there were concerns involving Kanach but could not go into further detail.
"The school had been doing some research on Mr. Kanach and so we did have him go on leave so that we could do more research and that's all that I can share with you," Alhambra Unified School District Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Jenny Cheng told the Tribune. Cheng said that the investigation was not sparked by a complaint by a student.
Alhambra High was Kanach's third place of employment after having issues at other schools and was cited for "misconduct" in July 2010 by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the Tribune reports. He was "publicly reproved" by the CTC, according to official records obtained by the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, and received a warning that his "conduct is not appropriate for a credential holder." Information about the misconduct was not included in the report.
