Bordz is closing shop

Bordz Skate Shop, located just off Main Street across from Alhambra High, is planning on closing by the end of the month after eight years in business.

"Business has been slowing down," store manager George Martinez Jr. said. "We want to keep out of the red."

Martinez and his father, George Martinez Sr, opened the business together eight years ago. Since then, in addition to outfitting skaters with equipment and clothing, they have worked with the Down's Syndrome Association of Los Angeles to sponsor a fundraising events. "I guess that would be a highlight," Martinez Jr. said.

Until closing, everything in the story is at least 25 percent off.
