Alleged fraudulent attorney arrested, accused of duping victims in Alhambra area

A disbarred attorney accused of misrepresenting himself to clients in Alhambra area was arrested on Wednesday. Police are looking for other potential victims.

Alhambra Police Department Detectives, working in cooperation with investigators from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, arrested Gerald Lionel Garcia-Barron at his home in La Mirada on several felony counts of grand theft and practicing law without a valid license. Mr. Garcia-Barron is also known to use the alias of Gerry L. Garcia, according to local law enforcement officials.

Despite Garcia-Barron losing his law license in 2011, he is accused of continuing to represent himself as a practicing attorney for several months, soliciting clients and accepting money from victims as a retainer.

Alhambra Police officials report Garcia-Barron is known to meet potential clients at coffee houses in and around the Alhambra area. While several of Garcia-Barron’s victims have been identified and are cooperating with law enforcement, police believe there were additional victims.

If anyone believes that they have been a victim of Mr. Garcia-Barron, or have any information that would be helpful in this investigation, they are encouraged to call Alhambra Police Department detectives at:
