Alhambra Park swimming pool will be open to the public from July 1 to August 26. The Granada Park pool is currently undergoing rennovations. Due to budget cuts, pool access has been reduced to only six weeks a year, and the city's youth swim team was cut last year.

Alhambra pool is open from 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm, except Saturday. Alhambra pools charge $1.50 for teenagers under 17 or $15 for 15 visits; $2.50 for adults.

The Youth Splash pool in Alhambra Park will open from Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 7p.m., and on weekends 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.

I'd like to hear more about the economic arguments made to and by the City Council. Where are the costs? Did the city open more lanes for lane swimmers? How does it cost more to have one lap open than five when the same staff is working and the pool needs to be cleaned regardless? Also, what are the costs of the idle pool per hour when closed and no staff is working versus the costs of the pool when the pool is open.

Six weeks seems like an awfully short season when the hot weather lasts from May to October most years. Perhaps we should close down the pools if we won't let people use them for most of the year.
