Alhambra foodies score a new Mexican restaurant and Korean BBQ

Alhambra foodies will soon get two new spots to eat, according to Eater LA. Chonitos will take the place of Lee Kam Kee on Fremont and Valley and Gen Korean BBQ will waft smells of kalbi and bulgogi from Main and Garfield, where Tony Roma's was previously.

Chonitos is opening next week at 2505 W. Valley Blvd. after three months of renovations. Owner and chef Gutierrez Encarnacion will serve Mexican cuisine along with beer and wine, making Chonitos the second full Mexican restaurant to open in Alhambra with a beer and wine license this millennium.

The popular Gen Korean BBQ is opening a two-story branch at 68 W. Main St. Construction crews told L.A. Eater that remodeling of the old Tony Roma's building may take two months. Gen's Tustin location has only been in operation for a year but has 896 Yelp reviews and an almost perfect rating.

Not a new restaurant but an old Alhambra favorite, Blue Ocean Seafood is finally on its way back. The restaurant, which nearly burned down one and a half years ago, is now under reconstruction.
