Alhambra Cadillac dealership closes after 74 years of business

Bewley Allen Cadillac closed its doors on Monday, after serving Main Street for 74 years. The dealership opened in 1938, and even operated as a weapons manufacturer and testing facility for the U.S. Navy during World War II. During that time, employees worked in a shop behind the dealership's service department producing prototype rockets, which they tested in Eaton Canyon in Pasadena.

City officials told the Pasadena Star-News that they were disappointed at the dealership's closure as it was a large employer of Alhambra residents and contributed to the city's revenue.

"I bought all my Cadillacs there," said Mayor Barbara Messina. "I was shocked, very upset; it's a big loss for our community."

"It's tough to lose a business of that caliber in a community like ours, but it's a sign of the times," City Manager Julio Fuentes said.

Officials say the dealership plans to consolidate with Crestview Cadillac in West Covina.
